MOCA technique

MechanicO Chemical Ablation (MOCA), or Clarivein or Flebogrif is a newly developed, non-thermal, non-tumescent technique for the treatment of gnarled and enlarged veins, commonly known as varicose veins. This condition can occur in any part of the human body, but more often it is observed in legs. The symptoms of varicose veins involve a wide range of conditions from cosmetic complaints to venous ulcers. MOCA is one of the best choices for those patients who cannot tolerate needles well, and who do not have extremely large veins or numerous branching varicosities coming off from the treated vein.

The superiority of the MOCA technique lies in the fact that it involves the combination of mechanical endothelial alteration using a rotating wire with the infusion of a liquid sclerosant into the vein walls, thus resulting in the most effective damage of the vessel wall. The treatment is painless and the patients who have undergone the treatment typically describe feeling a vibrating sensation. The procedure for the treatment of varicose veins in the leg takes only 20 minutes to complete, with only one tiny injection.

The best feature of this technique is that the treatment is done by using the Clarivein or Flebogrif catheter. This small and thin catheter is inserted in the main varicose vein, which contains a soft and a thin wire at the end of the catheter. This blunt wires protrudes from the end, and these wire cause vein to go to spasm and bruising the lining of the vein. At the same time, the doctor slowly injects a sclerosant into the vein and the catheter is slowly withdrawn. The effectiveness of this technique is somehow credited to the way it works and destroys the lining of the vein, allowing the effective use of the drug to close vein.

MOCA varicose vein treatment has a number of advantages over the other techniques utilised so far:

  • Technique is effective and safe
  • Reduced Pain levels, discomfort and negligible bruising
  • No risk of nerve and skin damage catheter does not generates any heat during the procedure and it works inside the vein
  • No internal leg pressure
  • No tumescent anaesthesia required, so no multiple needle stick injuries
  • Rapid return to normal activities as within two hours of the treatment the patient can go home.

The main key point of this surgery is that it should be performed by an expert vascular surgeon. Dr. Ravul Jindal is one of the best Vascular Surgeon in the tricity to treat patients with this amazing technology, providing an alternative to other existing techniques, with the significant benefits to treat painful, achy legs due to vein disease. He is also the first in the country to introduce this technique.
